SFD Applies Permit For Human Rights March

In commemoration of International Human Rights Day, Singaporeans For Democracy (SFD) has submitted an application to the police for a march on 10th Dec 2010.

30 people will take part in the proposed March for Human Rights which will begin on foot from Hong Lim Park at 1pm and end at Parliament House 1.45pm.

SFD believes that this is the first application for a cause-related public procession since the implementation of the Public Order Act in 2009.

Those marching will be casually dressed (no standard attire) but will be carrying the following 8 placards:

  1. Respect Freedom of Speech.
  2. Respect Freedom of Assembly.
  3. Respect Freedom of Association.
  4. Respect Free Media.
  5. Respect Free and Fair elections.
  6. Freedom from Fear.
  7. To Build a Democratic Society.
  8. Based on Justice and Equality.

As the Singapore Government requires permits for such events, SFD has applied for one online on 18th November 2010 via the Singapore Police Force website.

Since the application, Patrick Koh Kok Keong from the Compliance Management Unit of the Central Police Division has been in touch with SFD seeking more information.

ollowing the online application, Mr Koh called and sent SFD a set of follow up questions with a deadline of 29 Nov 2010. SFD replied on 26 Nov 2010. See below:

Q1. The event is scheduled to take place on 10.12.2010, from 1300hrs to 1345hrs. Are there any changes to this date/time? SFD ANSWER: No

Q2. How many people will be taking part in the march from Hong Lim Park to Parliament House? SFD ANSWER: 30

Q3. Will the participants wear the same clothes? If yes, pls provide graphics of the clothing. SFD ANSWER: No standard attire or colour.

Q4. Will there be banners/ placards? If yes, pls provide the graphics. SFD ANSWER: Yes, 8 placards only. Respect freedom of speech. Respect freedom of assembly. Respect freedom of association. Respect free media. Respect free and fair elections. Freedom from fear. To build a democratic society. Based on justice and equality.

Q5. Will the participants distribute flyers? If yes, pls provide a copy. SFD ANSWER: No

Q6. Will recorded music be played during the march? SFD ANSWER: No loudhailer or sound amplification used.

SFD is still waiting to hear from the Singapore Police Force regarding the above application.
